This is the only dining room in Tokyo specializing in anglerfish hotpot. The origin of this dining room can be traced back as far as 1830, near the end of the Edo period. The building was reconstructed in 1930 after the previous one was burned down due to the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake. The building, therefore, is a historical construction surviving the Bombing of Tokyo during WWII.
Isegen is located within a short distance from Awajicho Station of Marunouchi Line in Sudacho, a district consisting of a number of constructions that survived the war. The district also has Takemura, a Japanese-style confectionery store, and Kanda Yabusoba. These two buildings have also survived the war and become precious buildings showing us the atmosphere of the Showa period.
October to June is the season for anglerfish. During summer, Isegen offers loaches, ayu, and other freshwater fish.
A real anglerfish in front of the store.
