The special exhibition “Sharaku” that started on may 1st

The special exhibition “Sharaku” that started on may 1st.

The works that the Sharaku left was estimated to be 150 works and within the exhibition 140 works and 170 works are displayed. Works from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Musee Guimet, Paris, and other countries all over the world have been collected. Most of Sharaku’s works are line ups of those that are all inclusive, such a big exhibition like this is also said that it may never again be possible. Therefore because I had the chance to participate in this exhibition preview, I would like to introduce the state of the displays.

Before that I will explain simply who Sharaku is.
Sharaku, Toushuusai Sharaku was an Ukiyoe artist of Edo period. In 1794 he published and debuted 28 drawings Ookubie (big neck drawing) of Kabuki actor, then the year after he suddenly disappeared. He left an estimate of about 150 drawings within a 10 month period, and still we do not know his real name and the year of his death; he is an Ukiyoe artist with a lot of mysteries.

Mogusa-en ~Ume Festival~

Mogusa-en is a famous garden which opens since 1716 in Edo period. It is not so far away from central Tokyo, so it is very easy to visit as you stay in Tokyo. The best season to visit this garden is the winter. At the end of winter, you will see more than 50 kinds of ume (Japanese apricot tree) bloom. The scenery of it is so beautiful that you will forget to breath.

Because Mogusa-en is open since 1716, you can actually “see” the Japanese culture of “wabi-sabi”. Specifically speaking, Mogusa-en is located at top of the Tama Hill that is 10 minutes away from station at Keio Line.

“Hitomi” is one of the best yakitori place in Kyoto. You will be abl eto eat Tajima chicken baked by charcoal (specifically, Kishu-binnchotann). It is worth eating.

You want to know why Hitomi is very popular? Of course because they serve very good food and the atmosphere of the bar is very nice. But furthermore, it is because they don’t ask for a number when reservation. They want to keep the customer close not asking their private information.
