Kyoto Gion Tempura Yasaka Endo

Kyoto Gion Tempura Yasaka EndoYou can enjoy the freshest tempura in Kyoto Gion which is only available at the Yasaka Endo, a traditional store which has been open for 80 years. With Kyoto’s rare tea ceremony arbor styles, you can enjoy the atmosphere of Kyoto while enjoying Kyoto vegetables.
Within the restaurant there are counters and tatami style seating. On the day we visited we enjoyed out meal in one of the private rooms. There were foreign language menus for tourist, and we heard that many tourists enjoy sitting at the counter where they can watch as the vegetables are fried.
Todays course is the “aoi” course, which include 13 tempura dishes.
First is the pumped bean curd skin
The bean curd skin, is folded repeatedly, therefore it feels like you are eating a very smooth piece of tofu.
The “Wine/Champagne/Shochu/Sake” that goes well with the tempura of different varieties of dishes can be enjoyed as well.
Along with the tempura dishes
From the left is, shrimp bread, Mukago, trout and shiso, and corn. The Mukago is the bud ball of the grated yam, and is of autumnal tastes.
Corn tempura is one of their famous dishes. Is very sweet and delicious.
Add green tea salt, salt, and tempura dressing of your liking.
Along with the shrimp, gingko, pumpkin
The taste of the tempura is amazing, and you can sense the fresh vegetables that are being used.
Furthermore this is the green peas croquette, shitake (mushrooms) stuffed with shrimp and moroko tempura.
With the thick meat-like shitake, the shrimp’s presence can be enjoyed at the same time; it is very delicious. The green pea croquette is delicious because you can savor the taste of the vegetables in which the green peas have been smashed and fried.
The moroko is from Lake Biwa. It is fried crispy, and the simple taste is very luxurious.
The Kyoto vegetable’s Kintoki carrot tempura and conger eel.
Refresh your taste buds with the Endo special salad.
In the end of the course is a tempura bowl, a rice bowl, or mixed tempura.
Liquids
This is sherbet made from ruby. It is not too sweet and the taste of the apple can be enjoyed.
It is definitely worth eating in Kyoto because you can enjoy eating tempura made from the freshest ingredients. The restaurants atmosphere has of the feeling of Gion. At first glance, the restaurant may appear upper class, but you can easily make reservations online, and it is relaxing for those from overseas as well. In the spring there are the ayu larvae and bamboo shoots available, in the fall goby, pine mushrooms, and ginkgo can be enjoyed., Please come and enjoy the delicious foods that can only be found in Kyoto.

For lunch 3000 yen to 8000 yen
Dinner is from 5000 yen.
