Saijyo is well known to be the place for famous Japanese sake such as Nada and Fushimi, is located about 35 minutes away from Hiroshima station by train. For those that are interested in Japanese sake lets head out of Hiroshima city.

Saijyo is located in a basin about 250~300 meters in height, and sake creation started from 1650. With its various natural spring water and rice, Touji-no-eda, and with its perfect climate of 5 degrees for brewing, it is the best environment for making sake.

Near Saijyo station, all of the cellars are in alignment with the natural springs. The white and black walls of the buildings and the red brick chimneys are very unique.

After leaving Saijyo station, you can explore around the cellars located in the Sakagura Street. If you have 2 hours you can take your time to observe the eight Kuramoto (a sake making warehouse). At each Kuramoto, you can learn about the traditional ways used in making sake, and you can try the proud sakes of each Kuramoto.

Information

In front of Saijyo station there is a tourist information spot, so it is easy get a map of Sakagura Street.

Red brick chimneys seem to be a symbol. There are about 15 of these near the station!

Plants

The prepared springing water can be seen throughout the town. It is possible to try it, and among those there are people filling up their water bottles. When asked, they said that depending on the well, the taste of the water is slightly different.

Sake

If you find a sake test center you can see different types of sake aligned, and of course it is possible to try them. Please be cautious if you drink a lot!
