The Boeing 787 and its flight operations have started after long years of delayed developments. The first 787 has been handed over to ANA who’s contributed in the development as a launch customer, and has begun operations from November 1st. Before the operations had begun charter flights to Hong Kong and a revival support flights for children affected by the Tohoku earthquake had been planned.

The areas that were chosen for the 787 to be operated are the 2 roadways Haneda Okayama and Haneda Hiroshima.

The schedules in the morning time Okayama there and back and in the afternoon Hiroshima there and back were planned.
Tickets for both roadways on the first day were sold out immediately.

This time, we were able to reserve the flight to Hiroshima from Haneda, and were able to take this memorial first flight.

Before introducing how the flight was we will explain broadly on what the new Boeing 787 is.

Being a medium sized plane and is able to fly the distances large sized planes cane, it is also a next generation plane that succeeds in the high qualities and little fuel usage. Using 50% carbon fiber for its total weight, it is a machine that has Japan’s newest technology filled in. With big windows and a room air pressure that is close to the ground, a bathroom with a washlet, all of which contributes for a comfortable plane ride.

The Hiroshima destined ANA683 flight was planned to depart at 16:15, we arrived at the Haneda airport around 15:00.

The second terminal ANA uses is colored with Boeing 787. Of course with the large sign, in the departure lobby corner a “787 Museum” with the 787 mock ups displayed were opened.

After checking in, we had some time before departure, so we made our way to the site viewing deck. After going to the site viewing deck, it was filled with the air fans that were trying to catch a glance at the Boeing 787.

It was a specially painted plane so it stood out. The engine’s spikey designs were unique.

Leaving the site viewing deck, we enter the limited area, and waited for boarding.
The Okayama destined first flight enabled boarding from the boarding ramp, but the Hiroshima destined flight was boarded from the bridge.
Before boarding there was a small ceremony held, and from JA Hiroshima, the Hiroshima’s lemons were passed out.

Let’s introduce the interior of the plane.

IMG_8879

The ceilings were high, and it felt as if the plane was wide.

And the windows were large. It seems to be 1.3 times the usual size, and it was easier to see outside without sitting at the window seat. For sunshades an electric shade were being used, so although the windows become darkened it is still see through so you can see outside.

For the interior lighting LED is used, and when boarding it was rainbow colored.

After the doors were closed, on our way to the runway, there was an announcement from the pilot.
It was announced that with being part of the Boeing’s development for 5 years and having the honors for being the world’s first flight, there were deep emotions being felt.

To Hiroshima it is about a 1 hour.

When boarding I felt that the interior was quiet. At the same time the seatbelt sign had disappeared, the airplane fans were still moving for expedition so it was restless, but the noise from the engine was not bothersome. It seems to be that the quiet technology was advanced.

We arrived in Hiroshima airport before we knew it.
When leaving the airplane, a boarding certificate and memorial goods were given out.

Furthermore at Hiroshima airport boarding exit a brass band team welcomed the passengers. The mass media were waiting for the passengers, and it seemed that this called for a lot of attention.

The pilot as well, but the grand staff at the airport, the airplane service held by the CA, and the cleaning staff, all of their strong passions for the 787 could be felt.
ANA other than Haneda Okayama and Haneda Hiroshima is planned to open their Haneda Itami and for international flights Haneda Frankfurt is planned.

It seems that the travel across the skies will become more fun.
We want everyone to enjoy the travel across the sky with the new Boeing 787 that is filled with Japan’s technologies.
