J!NS is renowned for their high performance, high quality, yet well priced glasses.
This time we went to visit J!NS’s Harajuku shop, around 10 minutes’ walk from Harajuku station.

J!NS creates original glasses that have been shaped to the curves and features of the Japanese face; studies into the shape of the temples and the shape of the nose where the nose pads sit have been a central part of the development process. Not limiting themselves to Japan, their glasses are also made with other Asian countries in mind. In 2010 J!NS opened their first foreign store in Shenyang, China, and their second in Tianjin, China, opened in 2011.

All J!NS glasses have top-brand frames and thin aspheric lenses. Thanks to these aspheric lenses, the view of the world through J!NS glasses is much less distorted than glasses with normal spherical lenses. It is also possible to have glasses made to your prescription at no extra cost!

In 2010, J!NS won the “Entrepreneur of the Year Japan” award in the “Accelerating” category. Then, in June 2011 they represented Japan at the World Entrepreneur of the Year awards. Thanks to winning the prizes, J!NS received offers from companies in America and Europe and were now truly accepted globally.

Not just normal glasses, J!NS also has a range of “collaboration” series glasses. In June 2011 there were collaborations with Tower Records, Evangelion, and Tsubasa Masuwaka (a model). The collaboration range are designed to be worn all the time and so can suit the busy “salarymen” of Japan.

Tickling the fancies particularly of girls who would never normally expect to find them, J!NS has collaboration glasses with Tsubasa Masukawa. Plain-glass glasses and sunglasses are available in 9 different colors.

Then we come to the 600+ types of glasses which had style and health at the center of their research, the “spectre JINS”. Next generation lenses (“NXT”) block 99.99% of harmful UV radiation (with a wavelength of 400nm of less) making them an excellent choice to protect one’s eyes on sunny days. In addition, one of the key points of these glasses is that they were born of a US Army bulletproofing project and so are built with strength in mind also. From July 2011, J!NS are opening a store on the 4th floor of Narita Airport’s Terminal 2 so that before going on holiday customers can drop in and buy their own pair of “spectre JINS” sunglasses.

Alongside all this, J!NS have other frames such as the “Air Frame”. Medical-grade nylon resin frames give these glasses the safety and strength to be worn by young children. At 1/3rd of an ounce they weigh next to nothing, and thanks to the elasticity of nylon resin they are extremely strong and easily return to their original shape. “Titan Frame” glasses have high-quality Japanese-sourced pure titanium frames from the front to the wearer’s temple, making them stylish for anyone: male, female; young or old, to wear.
