Monzen Nakacho, which is convenient to access to Marunouchi, Otemachi, and Nihonbashi, is popular place to go. There are many recommended place, from Tatsumi Shindo where the Showa still shows its shadow to Museum Of Contemporary Art Tokyo.

First off is Tatsumi Shindo. Many bars stand along both side of the narrow road. Most of the bars will be full if five to ten people get in the store.

The path leading to Fukagawa Fudo-do is crowded with many worshipers.

Along the road, there are shops such as tsukudani shop, Japanese sweet shop, and bars lining.

Baika-tei is famous for its dorayaki. They make each of their Japanese sweets by hand one by one.

Monzen Nakacho means “the town in front of the gate of Eitai-ji” and was called “Fukagawa Eitai-ji Monzen Nakacho” back in the old days. After the Meiji Restortion, Eitai-ji was closed down. During Meiji period, Fukagawa Fudo-do was constructed and still remains today.

There is Fukagawa Kaiun Shusse Inari (fox god that brings luck in job)

As you walk toward Tomioka Hachiman-gu from Fukagawa Fudo-do, you will see a statue of Tadataka Ino. Known as the father of surveyor in Japan, his house was located around here.

Tomioka Hachiman-gu is the place where Fukagawa Hachiman Festival is held, one of the Three Great Edo festivals. It first took place in 1627. In the precinct, there are many stone monuments relating to Fukagawa.

This day, the colored leaves at the precinct were beautiful.

Passing through the precincts of the temple, you will see a red bridge. Hachiman-bashi Bridge is said to be the oldest metal bridge in Japan and is selected as the Important Cultural Property by the government.

Next we head toward Fuyuki Benten-do. It is one of the Fukagawa Shichifukujin (seven gods) and had many visitors since Edo period.

Contrasting the shitamachi atmosphere, there is Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, a space that opens up to contemporary art. From about 4000 art works collection, there are exhibition that shows the history of modern art, temporary big-scale exhibition on works abroad, and displays of various types of art works such as painting, sculpture, fashion, architecture, and design.

After enjoying the art at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, you can walk through the actual size Edo town at Fukagawa Edo Museum.

Since the last admission for the museum is 16-30, we could not get in today. Inside, the town of Edo is reproduced in details

The last stop for today’s walking guide is Kiyosumi Park. The Kaiyu-style using high quality rocks gathered from all over Japan. The garden is appointed as Place of scenic beauty.

Many types of birds come flying by.

To our surprise, we were able to see common kingfisher. It is a rare bird that you hardly see in the city.
