Special Exhibition – China: Grandeur of Dynasties2012 marked the 40th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-China diplomatic relations. To celebrate, Tokyo National Museum is holding a special exhibition “China: Grandeur of Dynasties” from October 10th, showcasing objects representative of the focal points in the Chinese dynasties of the ages.
Xia Dynasty, the first Chinese dynasty, is said to have emerged in 2070BC, generating many dynasties across various provinces until the present day. Through the evolution of many cultural aspects and its continuing development, China formed a great culture which became a huge influence to its neighboring countries, including Japan.
Cultures emerging from the various dynasties are the foundation of China today.
The highlight of the exhibition is its comparison of objects from the oldest Xia Dynasty to the more recent Song Dynasty, and is a new sensation as it projects the flow of history and progression of culture. It presents the history of the Chinese civilization through the objects of different eras, culture, politics, together with their backgrounds.
Pottery, swords, and dolls or decorations used as amulets, are some of the objects that can be observed. There are also information on culture and politics, and their influences on the proceeding generations.
