Haneda Airport became larger, and internationalized in earnestFrom Haneda to the world, such scene is now going to be a daily scene. On Oct. 21, brand new international terminal and D runway, the fourth runway, opened in Haneda Airport. By establishing the new D runway, the limit of arrivals and departures will increase, and from Oct.31, international scheduled flight will come back to Haneda since it has been stopped after Narita Airport opened.
Only lines that connect Haneda, Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong were in service as a scheduled charter flights. By Feb. 2011, Haneda will go into service of seventeen cities of the world.
For East Asia lines and Southeast Asia lines, addition to the four lines above, Taipei (Songshan), Singapore, and Bangkok lines will be open as a new. Also, western lines such as Los Angeles, New York, Honolulu, Paris, and London will be open.
According to the wave of globalization, infrastructure of Haneda Airport will also be strengthened. New international flights area is established on the west side of existing terminal district, and also international passenger terminal and international freight area are newly established. Attached to the international terminal, new stations of Tokyo Monorail and Keikyu Line are established to heighten the access. Haneda Airport International Terminal station is directly connected to the terminal building, and it would only takes one minute to the departure lobby.
Compared to the main cities airports in the world, access of Haneda Airport is good. It will take only 13 minutes to Shinagawa, central district for business in Tokyo, by Keikyu Line and also take 13 minutes to Hamamatsucho, also central district of Tokyo, by Tokyo Monorail. It would take no more than 40 minutes to Haneda from either Tokyo station or Shinjuku station. This is big contrast to Narita Airport which will take an hour at least from Tokyo.
Also the airport widens limousine bus service time for flight arrivals from Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia that arrives on midnight to early morning to heighten accessibility.
New International Terminal building is fifth stories high, and to correspond to midnight and early morning flights, it opens 24 hours a day. The concept of commerce facility in the terminal is “Made In Japan ~ Haneda the Only One”. There are reproduce of street in Edo period, Edo Komichi, on fourth floor. You can eat sushi or yakitori which is general food in Tokyo. For fifth floor, there is “TOKYO POP TOWN” which sales Japanese pop culture items such as anime and character goods. This space might be enjoyable for both traditional culture and latest culture at the same time. Planetarium is also established in the fifth floor as a first attempt for an airport.
Limited area after immigration has super brand tax-free shops for the perfect trip. The terminal would be attractive place not only for passengers but also for general customers. It definitely will be the hot spot of Tokyo.
Not only opening the newly-established international terminal, it has widens existing second terminal. It plans to increase number of arrivals and departures, and the limit will increase 50% by 2013. Accordance to its increase of flights, more cities will be able to access from Haneda. Narita Airport’s arrivals and departures limit is also going to increase. Therefore the flight circumstance of Tokyo is facing big alteration.
