The Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in New York, is famous for its “Hall of Beauty,” one of the world’s largest exhibits. Starting on Oct 6th, 2012, the MET is putting on an exhibit at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, with nature as its theme.

Van Gogh’s “Cypresses” is a long-awaited Japan debut.

It is said that the Metropolitan Museum of Art boasts a collection of over two million works, from which they have selected about 130 to bring to this exhibition. Visitors will be able to enjoy the variety of art on display by masters such as Rembrandt, Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin and others, as they view the representations of western landscapes and flora and fauna, through ancient Greek sculptures, medieval cloisonné, and glass paintings.

In light of the exhibit, Thomas P. Campbell, director of the MET, gave the following statement: “The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a museum that houses the art of all ages and countries, and has collected artifacts from all over the world. Therefore, I am extremely pleased that we have the opportunity to deliver these universal works of art to everyone in Japan. With nature being the theme for this exhibit, I hope that people will be able to discover a connection with the nature that they have grown up with, and the nature seen in these works.”

The theme of this exhibit is nature. Ranging from ancient to modern times, visitors can pursue the works of various genres.
