A Parade by London Olympic Medalists in Ginza
Reading time: About 2 minutes
A Parade by London Olympic Medalists in GinzaA parade was led by Japanese London Olympic medalists. Japan won a total of 38 medals. It was the highest number of medals Japan had ever earned in the Olympics. In Japan, cities were filled with excitement and celebrations by this medal rush.
A week after the closing of the London Olympic, a parade by the medalists took place in Ginza, Tokyo. According to the sponsors, 500 thousand people gathered to see the parade. Since the route of the parade was only 1km, the crowd was packed and people could not even move for a while.
Medalists were on open cars and two-story buses, and excited the spectators by showing the medals.
In the front stand Yukihumi Murakami, a javelin thrower, and Saori Yoshida, women’s wrestler who won three medals in a row in the Olympics.
In the end, there was a promotion bus to host 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. As the Olympics took place in Tokyo in 1964, it would be the second time for Japan to host the Olympics. Followed by the campaign to host the Olympics for 2016 Olympics (planned to take place in O Rio de Janeiro), this would be the second time for Tokyo to set up a campaign. The next Olympic location will be decided at IOC session in Buenos Aires, Argentina in September 2013. As the approval rate of the citizen was low, this parade gave people an opportunity to realize how wonderful it would be to host Olympics in Tokyo (other candidate sites for 2020 Olympics are Madrid and Istanbul).
Please support the campaign to host Olympics in Tokyo everyone!
