Chiba, Boso Peninsula GuideIn early spring, vivid flowers surround the roads of Boso Peninsula. You can drive here from Tokyo by car though Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line in one and a half hours. The beautiful shorelines of Boso attract many drivers.
Ooyama Senmaida is located in the mountainous area of Kamo River and in the middle of Boso Peninsula. It is known as the closest terrace from Tokyo. Due to the delay in land consolidation, this beautiful terrace remains today.
A sight of old rice paddy fields spread across 32,000 square meters.
On a steep land on the roots of the mountain, there lie staircases of 375 rice paddy fields.
Also, Ooyama Senmaida is the only rain-fed rice paddy field in Japan. For that reason, many invaluable animals and plants inhabit here.
The people who live there have preserved the wonderful scenery of Satoyama woodlands. Feeling the wind across the terrace at Senmaida. Ooyama Senmaida will teach you about the importance of living along with great nature.
South of Ooyama Senmaida, there is an open park called Kamukamu with a figure of a whale’s tail at the entrance surrounded by colorful flowers. There are numerous walkways inside of the park, featuring sunflowers and other various flowers.
Chikura Shiokaze Oukoku is a rest area where you can purchase gifts. A real ship is the symbol.
You can also buy fresh fish from here.
It is possible to eat at a restaurant with an astounding view of the Pacific Ocean. Today’s menu is seafood delivered from the sea of Dobo.
Again, we use the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line. It crosses Tokyo Bay between Kanagawa prefecture and Chiba prefecture and it has an overall length of 10km. At the bridge-tunnel crossover point, there is a parking area on an artificial island with a rest area consisting of restaurants, shops, and other facilities.
Mount Fuji can be seen if the weather is good.
In Dobo Peninsula, the flowers bloom as early as mid January. Drive around the shorelines and enjoy the fresh air and sea.
