Nagamachi Buke Yashiki is a place where many mid class samurai of the Kaga clan lived. The mud walls and gates, which have mostly been restored, continue on the traditions of the old days. The houses of Nagamachi, which are surrounded by mud walls, are still used as regular housing.

The beautiful garden
You can view the life of an Ashigaru (lit. a regular soldier) of the Kaga clan at the Kanazawa City Ashigaru Museum. The houses that the samurai lived in at that time were created with the idea of entertainment in mind. The main focuses of the house were the guest rooms and the garden, which were mainly used to entertain visitors.

There are also other facilities where you can see what samurai homes looked like, such as the Takada Family Remains and the Maeda Tosanokami-ke Shiryokan Museum. There you can learn more about not only the life of a samurai, but the life of their servants as well.
