Fukui prefecture Tourist guideFukui prefecture has its famous spots all over the place. Therefore, it is convenient to make access with cars. This time we will introduce the tourist spots in the northern areas as the main.
In each areas, Fukui prefecture holds its each and very own fascinations. The Tojinbo/Mikuno area in which you can full enjoy the tourists spots where you can overlook the Japan Sea from cliffs, and enjoy the gourmets. Within, speaking of Fukui prefecture’s proud places is the “Tojinbo”. In a year an estimate of 120 million people visit the northern landscaping area.
Its height is of 25 meters the most, and its cliff continues on for about 1km.
These rocks that are in the shape of columnar, was created by the rough waves of the Japan Sea.
Nearby the Tojinbo, are souvenir shops and shopping streets.
The scent of Hamayaki makes us hungry.
We cross the edge of the sea and there continues a promenade. It is a promenade in which you can enjoy the vibrant colors from coral reefs and the sceneries.
The Tojinbo at night, unfortunately, is famous for being a suicide area. Currently it is being reconstructed, and seems to be that suicides are declining. Wherever we go, there are signs put up.

Continued we introduce the Eihei temple that alines with the Tojinbo. It is a temple that holds a history of over 760 years. Every year it is a training area for monks in training consisting of over 100 persons a year. Eihei temple was opened by the zen master Dogen. Leaving their house in Kyoto, crossing over to China receiving a strict training, in order to spread the “zazen” they had received from the Buddha, the Eihei temple was opened.

This the place of the monk trainees. It is a place in which 1 person in 1 sheet of tatami sleep and eat.
The houdou is the main hall of the Eihei temple. It is the highest place within the precincts.
The sanmon is made of trees in which not a single nail is used. Eihei temple is the oldest building, an entrance gate into the world of Buddhism.
The Japanese cedar that is 700 years old of the Eihei temple precincts brings out mysterious atmosphere.
Going down south from the Eihei temple is the Ichijodani Asakurashi memorial. The Jokamachi from the Sengoku period is being reproduced. The Karamon is the most important entrance that reproduced the Edo period. The outside is the Asakura house, and the inside the Toyotomi family crests is engraved.
Under crossing the Karamon is a widespread area. The Yoshikage Asakura had lived, and a memorial in which governance was held.
Nearby the memorial was a town that was revived. The Joukamachi is being reproduced, and you can see the living styles in between.
Ichijodami Asakura memorial, after running the car down east, it is the famous Echizen Oono streets. It is the northern area Oono that was once called the small Kyoto. Even now is indifferent than before, the Echizen Oono castle looked up from the town is amazing.
Echizen Oono castles are a castle built in 1575. At the moment the castle had been built 30 years before, and is something that can be called as a symbol of Oono. Oono city is also a place of famous waters and spread. The Oshozu is Japanese famous water that had been chosen from 100 choices, a refreshing springs.
It is delicious water that is essential for daily living in which people take home, and also there is a place for washing laundry.
The Fukui tourist spots we introduced this time, is focused on places in which you can call a traditional. There is a dinosaur museum in which people of all ages can enjoy. The Mikatagoko where the scenery is amazing. The Obama nearby the Kyoto and Kansai area, there are still many more fascinating tourists’ spots, so please fully enjoy Fukui fascinations.
