Research on a Kimono Market
Reading time: About 2 minutes
Research on a Kimono MarketEdo-Shoten, who has actively spread the traditional Edo culture, hosted a sale kimono market in Asakusa. This is my report on it.
The market was held in the 6th floor of this building Amuse Museum, which is located right next to Nitenmon (a gate) of Senso-ji.
A mannequin with kimono welcomes the guests getting off the elevator.
You can find kimono, obi, and other small goods everywhere in this space.
Clerks would help their customers wear kimono, so you can try as many kimonos as you want.
There were approximately 30 people lining up at the opening time 10:00, said the sponsor. A number of people seemed be interested in this market.
During the sale time, lots of people rushed to the booth.
There were more than 400 kimonos in the market. It is very convenient to be able to purchase kimonos with reasonable prices. Wouldn’t it much nicer if people start wearing kimono as part of their everyday clothes?
These are obi with different types of design.
There are plenty of other small goods, too.
Most of the customers who came today were women, but there were a few men as well. How do men in kimono look to you, ladies?
In the coming month, Edo-Shoten hosts another event in which people in kimono clean the city of Asakusa. If you are interested, prepare a kimono and join in!
By the way, the rooftop of Amuse Museum is a viewpoint of Asakusa. You can overlook Senso-ji and its precincts as well as Tokyo Sky Tree which is under construction and is getting closer to its completion everyday.
