Write your name with your family!Calligraphy!
Reading time: About 2 minutes
Write your name with your family!Calligraphy!I visited a workshop where kids used Japanese ink to write their names.
The place is called “Surutokoro (place to do)” located near Ryogoku, Tokyo. It’s a facility set up in October 2009 by a printing company for the purpose of providing a place for mingling local people with particular events such as workshops. They open an art event for children to enjoy.
Today’s instructor is Ms. Takasu Rimi.
The topic is “Write your name with your family!”. This is an event where kids use their hands and feet to write their given names and surnames with the help of their parents.
An example presented by the instructor.
You can see a hand print and a smiley face within the Kanjis.
Now it’s their turn!
They use a bucketful of Japanese ink for an inkstone.
Their hands and feet will work as writing brushes.
Put on work gloves, get some ink, and draw!
What is he writing?
The foot is a writing brush!
Use washable ink so that kids can take any reckless actions.
Kids are very imaginative. Let’s take a look on their great works!
Is he happy with his work?
She likes hand prints!
The father writes his name using his kid!
Putting a sign on the favorite, and it’s all done!
Presenting their works in front of everyone, and Ms.Takasu gives a few words.
How artistically scattered is the ink!
The smiley faces are well blended in Hiragana. How cute!
Full of great works! It’s admirable how creative kids are.
Let’s take a picture of everyone!
Enjoyed yourselves?
By the way, there is a printing machine on the 1st floor of “Surutokoro”. Staff members will give you a guidance of the printing machine’s mechanism if you ask them.
“Surutokoro” will keep setting up workshops, some of which will be aimed at people from overseas who are interested in Japanese culture.
Keep your eyes on “Surutokoro”!
