Reading time: About 2 minutes
Yokohama: Kanazawa Hakkei Sea Paradise Part1Kanazawa Hakkei Sea Paradise is a floating island resort located in one corner of Yokohama Bay. With an aquarium, thrill rides, restaurants, and shops, it is possible to easily spend your entire day on the island.
Today’s topic is the aquarium inside Hakkei Island. There are three facilities which make up the Hakkei Island Aquarium. First, there is the “Aqua Museum,” with over 500 species of sea and river animals from all around the world. Next is the “Aqua Stadium,” where it is possible to watch sea lion, walrus, and dolphin performances live. The third facility is the “Dolphin Stadium,” which focuses only on dolphins.
First off we will head to the Dolphin Stadium, filled with natural sea life and magical performances.
Soon after entering, dolphins come to show their welcome. Bottlenose and Pacific white-sided dolphins swim around in the water tank above.
Children fascinated by the dolphins
The next sea creature to appear is the beluga whale, the “idol of healing” of Sea Paradise. Full of charm, the beluga is incredibly popular, even with children. To show it’s playfulness the beluga plays with the bubbles it blows.
Looks kind of like an alien?!
Moving on, the next place to visit is “Fureai Lagoon,” a newly built aquarium designed for active interaction with living sea animals. It was built in July, 2007 at Hakkei Island Sea Paradise, with a total of three “zones” inside. The goal for this new aquarium is to promote communication between people and animals, which is the new exhibition style for Hakkei Island Sea Paradise.
It is on the south end of the island, a five minute walk.
In the “Whale Ocean” zone, it is not only possible to see dolphins swimming, but also to reach over the short glass barrier into the pool.
The dolphins, full of curiosity, love the interaction with humans. If you reach your hand out to them, they will come closer to you.
If you are lucky, the dolphins might jump into the air for you
There are walruses, seals, and also penguins!
In the “Fish Zone,” it is possible to interact with fish and other animals which live in pools that are recreated to resemble the sandy soil and reef areas of Tokyo Bay.
You can play with the fishes, just like this.
